    The Bail Process

How bail bonds work in North Carolina — in plain English.

Most families have never dealt with the bail system. Here is exactly what happens from the moment of arrest through your loved one walking out the door.

    01

    Arrest & magistrate hearing

After an arrest in North Carolina, the accused is brought before a magistrate — typically within a few hours. The magistrate reads the charges and sets bond. For DWIs, a mandatory observation hold of up to 24 hours may apply before bond can be posted.

    You call (919) 624-9301

A licensed NC bondsperson answers — never an answering service. We gather the inmate's full legal name, date of birth, and the jail where they are held. Total intake time: about 2 minutes.

    03

    Co-signer & paperwork

Most bonds require a co-signer 21 or older with valid ID, proof of address, and proof of income. We use e-signature where possible to keep things fast. Payment is collected at this stage.

    04

    We post the bond

Our Raleigh-based office secures underwriting approval in seconds and dispatches a licensed agent directly to the county jail to post the bond.

    05

    Release & after-care

Once posted, the jail begins the release process. Average release time: 2–6 hours depending on facility volume. After release, we provide written reminders for every court date until the case concludes.
